We’ll start our discussion by talking about laboratories that are currently operating using manual processes (paper logbooks) or simple spreadsheets for sample management. This is highly inefficient and is costing the organization in terms of decreased productivity and data quality. For these labs there are also challenges to meeting federal and state regulatory compliance requirements or industry standards like NELAP and ISO 17025. Also, lab testing services is highly competitive and being able to reduce turnaround time and allow customers 7/24 access to their test results and report history is becoming mandatory in many industries. And finally, the demand for Software as a Service (SaaS) or cloud-based deployment has really grown in popularity due to part to providing affordable LIMS options that previously did not exist.
